With the surprise addition of 10 new freshmen runners, the Healdsburg Hounds hope to boost their chances to make league cross country champs. And although that might depend on the good health of their veteran runners, one can’t deny the fresh energy these freshmen bring to the team.

The season ends with two games against Piner, on May 7 (in Healdsburg) and May 9 (at Piner). League and division playoff schedules are yet to be announced, but the Greyhounds have had good luck in post season play in recent years, under coach Mark Domenichelli.

“We brought the intent and spirit of our full team of 42 athletes to the Viking Classic, although only 17 were able to compete due to illness and family commitments over the holiday weekend,” said coach Kate Guthrie. “Those who stepped on the track or into the field did so with purpose, representing the work ethic and culture we’ve built this season.”

‘Fútbol’ Comes Back into Season

The girls soccer squad has started off undefeated in their first four matches, winning three more times following their 3-0 season-opening shutout against St. Helena on Nov. 14. Meanwhile the boys are fielding another strong team this year. They, too, started their season on Nov. 20 with a win against Cloverdale, a one-sided 6-0 victory....
