Cloverdale figures to battle for NCL-1 title in 2016

Healdsburg’s thrilling victory in the NCS Division 5 championship series, which culminated on Saturday night at Cardinal Newman gym in a sold 47-35 win over San Dominico, was long overdue: about 35 years overdue.

Those nostalgic sunset games will happen often during the next couple of months for the Greyhounds before the Prune Packers take over Rec Park in June. Until then, baseball fans know they can always find a good game from Healdsburg High’s Greyhounds, both varsity and JV, who play at Rec Park into May.

Hoot Owl is one of the oldest vineyards in Alexander Valley, but for the past seven years it’s been the training and competition course for Healdsburg’s cross country team. Known as the Top of the World for its expansive vineyard views, the 3.1-mile course provides an aerobic hill workout for runners—a challenge not only for Greyhounds but for visiting teams as well.

The Lady Eagles varsity softball squad retained the top spot in the NCL-1 standings last week with lopsided wins over Kelseyville (14-0), Fort Bragg (11-1) and Willits (12-1).
