Two beloved science teachers will be remembered at a dedication ceremony later this month. Healdsburg Unified School District will honor Mark Giampaoli and Carlo Filippi, former science educators at Healdsburg High School and dedicating The Giampaoli-Filippi STEM Center in their memory.
Mark Giampaoli, a much beloved educator, spent 35 years in the classroom teaching science to Healdsburg students. Always good for a laugh or a shoulder to lean on, he is fondly remembered as a teacher leader and mentor to students, teachers and administrators alike.
Carlo Filippi taught biology at Healdsburg High School for his entire career where his love and passion for science was passed on to his students. He is not only remembered for inspiring students to pursue their scientific studies, but for his great sense of humor and seemingly effortless ability to provide support and encouragement.
In September, the Healdsburg Unified School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to dedicate this new facility in these mens’ honor. At that time, trustee Judy Velasquez shared her memories of these two teachers. “They inspired students to go beyond the curriculum and stretch themselves. Both were available every lunch hour and kids would go in and have a great time with them, bringing the science alive,” she said.
There will be guest speakers at the dedication, including former students Dr. Stephanie Bailey, Dr. Solomon Endlich and Dr. Lisa Velasquez.
HUSD said in a statement, “We are pleased to honor both Mr. Giampaoli and Mr. Filippi and their dedication to our community and students.”
The dedication of the Giampaoli-Filippi STEM Center will be April 29 at 11:30 a.m. at Healdsburg High School. Any community members, former students or friends are invited to attend.
