The varsity soccer Tigers stayed in the Sonoma County League
title picture last week, recording one win and a tie in two games
played.
The week started with an Oct. 12 meeting with Casa Grande, as
the Tigers easily dispatched the visiting Gauchos, 5-0. Analy
goal-scorers included Agustin Reyes (2 including PK), and Armando
Coronel (2). The Tigers also benefited from an own goal, with
assists going to Reyes, and Juan Sanchez.
“We came out well, and played our most efficient game of the
year,” said Analy coach Peter Meechan. “We scored on almost all of
our opportunities. The score didn’t reflect the game, as Casa
Grande played well and hard throughout.”
Analy traveled to two-time defending SCL champion Windsor two
nights later, playing the Jags to a classic, 1-1 tie. The Jags
drew first blood on a header at the far post off a corner kick, but
the Tigers would get even on a goal from leading scorer Armando
Coronel to knot the contest at 1-1 at the break.
Following a scoreless second half, the game moved to a pair of
10-minute overtime frames but neither team could convert their
opportunities as the game ended in a 1-1 deadlock.
“This was a top notch game,” noted Meechan. “We played well and
did enough to win, but it was not to be.”
The Tigers (18-2-2, 8-1-1) were just a game and a half back of
first-place Sonoma and will close out the league campaign against
Healdsburg (Oct. 19, after press time), and at home against Sonoma
next Tuesday, Oct. 26. Game times at Karlson Field starting with
the JV are 5 and 7 p.m.
Lions set to wrap up season
The El Molino boys squad will finish up league play with
upcoming games against Windsor (Oct. 19) and at Healdsburg on Oct.
21 (Recreation Park, 5/7 p.m.).
