Editor: In a letter about the north-county Supervisor race, Stan
Gold from Petaluma wonders “who is Mike McGuire?” Answer: Mike
McGuire is the guy who received Sonoma County Conservation Actions’
“Upstream Swimmer” award just two short years ago and who has
consistently scored — during his entire term on the Healdsburg City
Council — among the best of the best when it comes to environmental
issues.
Mike McGuire is the guy who co-founded the Clean Water Coalition
that successfully blocked Santa Rosa from dumping billions of
gallons of wastewater into the Russian River. Mike McGuire is the
leader in the effort to restore Foss Creek and who accepted the
“Friend of the River” Award on behalf of the Healdsburg City
Council just six short months ago. Mike led the successful effort
to establish a County wide plastic bag recycling program, and I was
happy to serve with Mike on the committee that implemented the
Healdsbag reusable tote-bag program.
Mike McGuire is a proud progressive, but he also realizes that
we all must work together to ensure local government is in-touch,
responsive and effective regarding the needs of all residents of
our communities. Doing the hard work of consensus building is no
vice; in fact, this is the way things get done. I like Mike McGuire
for Supervisor.
