The Analy football squad wrapped up the Sonoma County League
campaign in dominating fashion on Nov. 12, jumping all over
visiting Sonoma, 29-0.
The win gave the Tigers a final SCL record of 2-4, and evened
their season mark at 5-5. More importantly, the win earned the
Tigers the 14th seed in the North Coast Section Division-3
playoffs, which start this week.
Ironically, Analy will open the playoffs at third-seeded
Miramonte, the same venue where the Tigers dropped a 21-7
season-opening decision to the Matadors on Sept. 3.  Should Analy
pull the upset, it will advance to play the winner of the
Alhambra-San Marin game on Nov. 26 or 27.  Check the NCS website at
www.cifncs.org for updated
bracket information.
The complete list of NCS Division-3 teams in seeding order is
Marin Catholic (10-0), Cardinal Newman (7-3), Miramonte (9-1),
Encinal (9-1), Eureka (6-2), Alhambra (7-3), Bishop O’Dowd (9-1),
San Rafael (9-1), Acalanes (5-5) Ygnacio Valley (6-4), San Marin
(7-3), Petaluma (4-6), Novato (5-5), Analy (5-5), Campolindo (5-5),
and Del Norte (4-6).
Tigers blank Sonoma
Friday’s win over the visiting Dragons was just what the doctor
ordered for the Tigers, who came into the league finale fresh off a
bye and riding a three-game losing streak.
The Analy defense returned to mid-season form, limiting the
Dragon offense to 194 total yards, including just 59 on the
ground.
The Tigers drew first blood in the opening quarter when
quarterback Jake Zanutto hit JV call-up Dylan Mathias on an 11-yard
scoring pass for a 6-0 lead at the end of one. The pair teamed up
again in the second period, this time on a nine-yard touchdown
hook-up. The two-point conversion attempt failed and the Tigers
led, 12-0.
Analy defender Sean Benfield busted the game wide open late in
the quarter when he scooped up a Dragon fumble and took it 54 yards
to the house. The Omar Galvan PAT kick was good and the Tigers took
a 19-0 lead at the break.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Analy effectively iced the
ballgame in the final period when Galvan nailed a 22-yard field
goal. Running back Mike Myers administered the coup de grace late
in the contest with a four-yard touchdown scamper en route to a
29-0 win.
Zanutto finished a solid night under center with 12 completions
on 23 passing attempts for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Other offensive leaders were Cooper Maloney (17-75 yards rushing),
Andrew Dannenbring (4-20 yards rushing), Myers (3-8 yards rushing,
TD), Jeff Silveria (1-7 yards rushing), Mathias (2-20 yards
receiving, 2 TDs), Julian Titus-Patino (2-50 yards receiving),
Issak Olsen (5-65 yards receiving), and Dustin Derkos (1-8 yards
receiving).
Anchoring the Analy defensive unit were Maloney (5 tackles, 1
assist), Olsen (3, 4), Jimmy Pitkin (4 tackles), Tanner Fox (3, 4),
Dallas Hamilton (3, 2), Dylan Anderson (2, 2), Silveria (1, 4),
Titus-Patino (2, 2), Augie Houlemard (2, 1), Mathias (1, 1), Galvan
(sack), Zavi Ginella (2 assists), Benfield (FR, TD), and Kyle Lewis
(assist).
