Q&A: Steven David Martin talks about theater
Steven David Martin enjoyed a long and successful theatrical career, acting in and directing productions across the country and overseas. He also taught at the junior college and university levels before embracing his passion for writing. Martin works extensively with the Raven Theater and Cloverdale Performing Arts Center. He lives in Healdsburg with his family, two dogs, four fish, a chinchilla and cat. His day job is Creative Practitioner at Firefly Creative Company. His new column, “Backstage,” debuts next week in this section.

The Fishing Report: Politics threaten salmon future
King salmon continue to make their way to the Golden Gate or to the Klamath in waves and as a result, scores of salmon off of our Sonoma coast have been more sporadic than the solid action we had all July. Saturday out of Bodega Bay, sport boats landed very few – and then on Sunday, the action reportedly increased markedly with several boats reporting limits of large king salmon to 40 pounds.
Sonoma Film Institute Presents Restored ‘Portrait of Jason’ Film
On the night of Dec. 2, 1966, Shirley Clarke and a tiny crew convened in her apartment at the Hotel Chelsea to make a film. There, for 12 straight hours, they filmed the one-and-only Jason Holliday as he spun tales, sang, donned costumes and reminisced about good times and bad behavior as a gay hustler, sometime houseboy and aspiring cabaret performer. The result is a mesmerizing portrait of a remarkable, charming and tortured man, who is by turns hilarious and heartbreaking.
