CHS varsity softball impresses with win
The Cloverdale Lady Eagles continued to roll in high school varsity softball action on April 10, powering to a 9-0 shutout win at Fort Bragg. The victory pushed Cloverdale’s season record to 8-3, and a perfect 3-0 in league to retain the top spot in the NCL-1 standings. Through three games the defending champion Eagles have not allowed a run, outscoring league opponents, 19-0.
At press time the ladies were preparing to embark on a three-game road swing beginning on April 14 at St. Helena, followed by visits to Clear Lake (Friday, April 17), and Kelseyville (Tuesday, April 21). All games start at 4 p.m.
Eagles pound T-Wolves
Cloverdale’s lone outing of the week was of the dominant variety, as ace pitcher Teanne Edens throttled the Timberwolves offense in a masterful one-hit, no-walk, 14 strikeout performance.
The Eagles wasted no time in establishing control, plating three runs in the opening frame, adding a solo run in the second for an early, 4-0 lead. Cloverdale busted it wide open with another four-run uprising in the fifth inning, and scored an insurance run in the sixth en route to a 9-0 romp.
Pacing the Eagles’ 13 hit attack were Josie Marrufo (3 for 4, 2B, run, 2 RBIs), Monica Lemley (2 for 5, HR, 3 runs, 2 RBIs), Edens (2 for 4, run, 2 RBIs), Bailey Creager (2 for 4, RBI), Bailey Stewart (1 for 4, run) and Ashley Durant (1 for 4, run, RBI).
