It was a good stretch of hoops for local girls teams, as the
Lady Tigers recorded a 45-19 win over Elsie Allen, while the Lions
fell to Terra Linda, 47-37 and beat Elsie Allen, 42-25.
Lions gain split
El Molino’s lopsided win over Elsie Allen on Dec. 18 was the
latest in a resurgent campaign under first-year head coach Melissa
Jones, who has guided the team to an even 6-6 record after 12
games.
“We’re still a team in transition,” said Jones. “The girls are
starting to play well, but we’ve only put a couple of complete
games together. The kids are still learning and getting used to a
new coach, but they’re working hard. We’re still on the rise and we
hope to improve every game,” she added.
The Lions benefited from a great second half against the Lobos
on Saturday, as they broke open a tight game to win going away.
Leading the attack were Kaity Gentry (16 points), Siera Taylor
(11 points), Megan Nonella (6 points), Molly Nagle (4 points),
Stephanie Singler (3 points), and Kerri Rampone (2 points).
On Dec. 13, El Mo fell to a talented Terra Linda contingent,
47-37. Pacing the offense were Carly Graves (7 points), Rampone
(6), Taylor (6), Vierra (5), Nonella (4), Singler (4), Nagle (2)
and Gentry (2).
Tigers post win
Analy is coming off of an abbreviated holiday schedule, posting
a 45-19 win in its lone outing against Elsie Allen. The win
improved the Tiger’s record to 4-4.
“After a week of very light basketball, I was very pleased with
the energy the girls brought to the game against Elsie Allen,”
reported Analy coach Earl Pasamonte. “Our defense was aggressive
but smart.”
The Tigers took a huge early lead, holding the Lobos to just
four points in the first half before coasting to a 26-point win.
Kelley Benck and Katy Lowry led the offense with 10 points
apiece.
The Lady Tigers will resume pre-league action on Dec. 21 and 22
(after press time), against San Marin and Tamalpais
respectively.
