It was a good week on the soccer pitch for West County girl’s
teams, as Analy and El Molino squads each recorded wins on the
league circuit.
Analy turns back Healdsburg
The banged up Tigers got a much-needed break last week, enjoying
a bye after posting a 1-0 win over Healdsburg.
Analy (6-4, 1-3) got off to a sluggish start in the Sept. 22
meeting with the visiting Greyhounds, as the teams battled to a
scoreless tie at the half.
The Tigers got it going after intermission, putting constant
pressure on the Healdsburg defenses. Analy finally broke the
deadlock midway through the second period, as Molly Schuster took a
perfect cross pass from Deanna Molkenbuhr and drove it home for the
goal. The Tigers dug in to preserve the 1-0 victory.
“The girls came out flat and rusty in the first half,” said
Tiger coach Joseph Heil, citing a fine game played by midfielder
Deanna Molkenbuhr. “We made some adjustments at halftime and the
girls stormed the Healdsburg goal the entire second half.”
Analy enters a critical stretch of league games this week,
beginning on Sept. 29 against Sonoma (after press time), and
continuing with a game at El Molino today (Thursday, Oct. 1). Game
times starting with the varsity are 4 and 5:30 p.m.
El Mo back in win column
The Lions (3-5, 1-4) notched perhaps their most important win of
the fall campaign on Sept. 24 at Recreation Park in Healdsburg,
blanking the host Greyhounds, 3-0.
The win came on the heels of a forgettable, 7-0 loss at Windsor
two nights earlier.
The Lions and Hounds played to a scoreless tie at the half, but
the ladies got it going shortly after intermission. Senior Sarah
Scott, who recently moved from the back line to a forward position,
led the charge for the Lions. The senior veteran scored a pair of
second-half goals, and freshman Sarah Clemens sealed the win with
another score for the eventual, 3-0 El Mo victory. Credit goalie
Analisa Speicher with the shutout for the Lions.
