Athletes of the Week

Throughout the school year, the Windsor Times will name a male and female athlete of the week. Recipients will receive a free small soda, a small bag of chips and a sandwich from Pohley’s Market.

The year 2016 will long be remembered for outstanding individual and team achievements by Windsor athletes in what amounted to an historic year in local sports. This week, we’ll take a look back at many of the highlights over the past 12 months. Although there were far too many stories to list, here are some of the year’s best.

Lady Eagles second at tournament; boys fall to Healdsburg

It was a mixed bag on the high school preseason hoops circuit for Cloverdale teams, with the Lady Eagles advancing to their second straight tournament final in Orland while the boys fell to Healdsburg in abbreviated action.

Our Lady of Guadalupe game of the week

The Our Lady of Guadalupe 8th grade boys Division 1 team held on for a 57-46 win over St. Mary’s in this week’s OLG Catholic Youth Organization game of the week. Coach Kim Batchelder’s team led by 18 going into the final period. St. Mary’s full court press was effective and pulled the Ukiah team to within five points but the locals held on to stay atop the standings at 3-0.
