With the surprise addition of 10 new freshmen runners, the Healdsburg Hounds hope to boost their chances to make league cross country champs. And although that might depend on the good health of their veteran runners, one can’t deny the fresh energy these freshmen bring to the team.

The Cloverdale High School baseball and softball teams are alive and well this week, as they near the end of their respective league schedules, each approaching the finish line with an eye toward the postseason.

Healdsburg’s narrow path to an NBL Redwood baseball pennant opened a bit wider Wednesday afternoon. In dramatic fashion, the Greyhounds broke a 7-inning scoreless game on a two-out error by the Montgomery shortstop that allowed Tyler Swanson to score from second in the top of the eight inning.

Grapplers of the North Coast Section met for the first time earlier this month in the remodeled former Frost Gym, soon to be officially christened Drew Esquivel Hall. This year’s wrestlers are for the most part, if not entirely, first- and second-year wrestlers, and coach Scott Weidemier is careful to give them the kind of exposure that will grow their skills and enthusiasm for the sport instead of frustrate them...
