The race for a coveted Sonoma County League boys soccer title
could come down to the final week of the regular season as three
teams battle it out for the top spot.
The Tigers (17-2-1, 7-1) remain in good position to make a move,
with a loss to Sonoma last month as the only blemish on their
league record.
Last week Analy recorded another pair of wins, defeating
cross-town rival El Molino in Forestville, 4-1 on Oct. 5 before
slipping by host Petaluma, 2-1 in overtime.
The Lions added a 3-0 loss to Sonoma in pushing their overall
record to 5-10-2, and 1-6-1 in league.
Tigers turn back Lions
The final score doesn’t tell the whole story, as El Mo gave the
visiting Tigers a good battle before dropping an eventual, 4-1
decision. Analy clung to a 2-0 lead at the break, but busted it
open with another pair of goals after intermission. Finding the net
for the Tigers were Augustin Reyes, Anthony Zepponi, Armando
Coronel, and David Vigil, with assists going to Reyes, and
Coronel.
Leading scorer Brayan Romero scored the lone goal for the
Lions.
The Oct. 6 meeting in Petaluma was tougher than expected, as
Analy erased a 1-0 deficit late in the second half on a goal from
Raffi Dick to send it into overtime.  The Tigers came out with
purpose in the first of two ten-minute extra frames, benefiting
from a foul on Richie Amador in the box to set up a successful
penalty kick from Reyes. The Tiger defense would make the lead
stick the rest of the way to notch the 2-1 victory.
“Petaluma played great defense and were tough to break down,”
said Analy coach Peter Meechan. “We showed great spirit and fought
back to force the match into overtime. It’s always tough down at
Durst field,” he added.
This week the Tigers will visit Windsor in a key showdown on
Thursday, Oct. 14 (5/7 p.m.) and host Healdsburg next Tuesday, Oct.
19 (5/7 p.m.). The Lions will entertain Windsor on Oct. 19. The
varsity kick off the action at 4 p.m.
