Few teams can boast the success or consistency of the Analy boys
soccer program over the past two decades, seasons that have
included multiple league titles and yearly appearances in the North
Coast Section playoffs.
That success should continue unabated this fall, as the Tigers
gear up for what looks like another strong campaign.
Veteran Peter Meechan, the dean of Sonoma County League coaches,
returns for his 19th campaign hopeful and optimistic that his squad
will be battling with defending league champion Windsor for SCL
supremacy.
“The soccer tradition at Analy is deep and so our expectations
are always high,” said Meechan. “The quality in the league is the
best I’ve seen in many years. It will be competitive from top to
bottom.”
Key returnees for the Tigers include: senior captains Taylor
Varnadore and Dillon Sanchez, seniors Devin Martens-Olzman, Michael
Giacomelli, Paul Dick, Brett Debbold, and Paul Gresset, juniors Eli
Munger, and Sergio Hernandez, and sophomore Armando Coronel.
Also expected to make an impact are: juniors Richy Amador, Keith
Pastorino, Corey Schmitt, Kyle Schmitt, Max Gordon, and Coy Truman,
sophomores Anthony Zepponi, Brett Marshall, Raffi Dick, Alex Rich,
Cheyenne Rahimi, Ryan Willis, and Taylor Williams , and freshmen
Augustine Reyes and Issac Moore.
Although Meechan believes that Windsor deserves top billing, he
cites Casa Grande, Healdsburg, Sonoma, and Analy as teams capable
of winning on any given night.
“Windsor is the team to beat, although I think all five teams
will be right in the thick of things,” he noted.
The Tigers will host a pair of pre-season games this week,
beginning with a Friday, Aug. 28 meeting with Tomales, followed by
a key, Tuesday, Sept. 1 clash with Cardinal Newman. Game times at
Karlson Field starting with the JV are 5 and 7 p.m.
