The Lions and Tigers each played a pair of games last week, as
Analy recorded a 2-0 win at Healdsburg, followed by a 7-0
non-league victory over Leadership Prep, while El Molino dropped
games to Windsor, 7-3 and Healdsburg, 3-2.
Analy takes aim at SCL title
The cream is rising to the top of the SCL standings, as the
Tigers kept pace with defending champion Windsor.
The Tigers (11-1-2, 3-0-1) traveled to Recreation Park in
Healdsburg on Sept. 23, playing the Greyhounds to a scoreless tie
at the break.  Paul Dick got the Tigers on the board 15 minutes
into the second frame to give his team the lead, and Analy would
seal the deal in the 38th minute when Augustine Reyes found the net
for the eventual, 2-0 victory.  Credit Taylor Varnadore and Keith
Pastorino with assists and goalie Paul Gresset with the shutout for
the Tigers.
Analy finished off a good week with a 7-0 romp over visiting
Leadership Prep of Richmond.  The Tigers led 3-0 at the break and
never let up, getting goals from Reyes (2), Raffie Dick, Kyle
Schmitt, Ryan Willis, and Dillon Sanchez.  Leadership was also
tagged with an own goal in the game.
The Tigers will host visiting El Molino this Friday, Oct. 2 in a
7 p.m. meeting at Karlson Field, and travel to Petaluma next
Wednesday, Oct. 7.  The JV kick off the action at 5 p.m.
Lions battle but come up empty
It was a familiar theme for El Molino last week, giving league
teams all they can handle, only to fall in the waning minutes.
The Lions (2-6-2, 1-4) put a scare into first-place Windsor on
Sept. 23, taking a brief 2-0 advantage in the first half on a pair
of penalty kicks from David Lopez.  The Jaguars cut the deficit to
2-1 at the break. The Windsor floodgates opened after intermission,
as the Jags tallied six goals en route to a 7-3 win.  Credit Lopez
with a hat-trick for the Lions.
A dangerous Healdsburg team came calling in Forestville on
Friday, as the Hounds took a 2-0 lead at the half. El Mo came
roaring back after the break, helped in large part by a pair of
penalty kicks by Lopez to knot the game at 2-2. Healdsburg would
pull out the win in the 38th minute on a goal from leading scorer
Angel Acevedo to escape with a 3-2 win.
“It was a very physical game, but I thought our boys did a
great job of hanging in there and fighting back,” said El Mo coach
Dan Calmeyer.
The Lions will travel to Sonoma next Wednesday, Oct. 7.
