Local Little Leaguers swarmed the field in big numbers last
weekend as they kicked off the District-35 Area All-Star
Tournaments on baseball diamonds all over the North Bay.
In all, 10 local teams featuring about 125 West County athletes
are participating in All-Star competition this year, with hopes of
advancing to their respective District Final tournaments, which
start on July 11.
The following is a brief summary of each level of District-35
All-Star baseball tournaments underway this week.Â
Minor 9-10
Both Sebastopol and El Molino are represented in this tournament
hosted by Petaluma Valley. Sebastopol opened up with a 13-0 win
over El Molino on July 2, fell to Petaluma Valley, 9-0, and then
bounced back to defeat Rancho Cotati, 13-0 to stay alive. El Molino
was eliminated with a 13-3 loss to Petaluma American. The tourney
winner will advance to the District Final Tournament hosted by
Healdsburg beginning on July 11.
Major 10-11
El Molino beat host South Ukiah 4-3, and North Ukiah, 14-3 in
the North Area Tournament to advance to the title game, while the
10-11 year-old Sebastopol stars fell in their opener to host
Petaluma Valley, 9-4. At press time, Sebastopol was preparing for a
July 7 game against Petaluma American. The tourney winner will
advance to play in the District Final hosted by Petaluma American
on July 11.
Major 11-12
Sebastopol participated in the Central Area Tournament,
falling
6-5 to Healdsburg in the opener before being eliminated by host
Santa Rosa, 13-4. El Molino is involved in the South Area
Tournament hosted by Petaluma American, sandwiching an 8-0 win over
Westside and a 7-5 victory over Rancho Cotati with a 12-2 loss to
Petaluma. At press time, El Mo was getting set for a July 6 game
against Petaluma Valley. The tourney winner will advance to play
in the District Final hosted by Petaluma American starting on July
11.
Junior Division
The El Molino All-Stars participated in the Central Area
Tournament hosted by Santa Rosa, dropping two hotly-contested games
to Petaluma American, 11-9, and Cloverdale, 7-6. The Sebastopol
Junior stars are currently hosting the South Area Tournament,
defeating Petaluma Valley, 9-8. Sebastopol was to play Petaluma
National on July 6. The winner of this tourney will advance to
play in the District Final tourney hosted by Sebastopol starting on
July 11.
Senior Division
Both the El Molino and Sebastopol Senior All-Stars are in the
District-35 Final tourney hosted by Healdsburg. At press time,
Sebastopol was preparing for its opener on July 9 against Petaluma,
while El Mo was to play Santa Rosa/Mark West on July 10. The
winner of this tournament will move on to play in the Section
Championship Tournament in Fairfield beginning on July 17.
