Local races shaping up in Windsor for November election
There will be a variety of seats up for decision by Windsor voters this fall, and with the initial filing deadline in the rearview mirror, the individual races are starting to shape up. The filing deadline was Aug. 7 and not everyone who officially considered a candidacy by “pulling papers” finalized their applications.
School board discussing facilities, graduation requirements on Wednesday
The Cloverdale Unified School District (CUSD) Board of Trustees is meeting this week on Feb. 17 for its regularly scheduled board meeting. In addition to the regular updates provided to the board at every meeting — including district reopening and Measure H — the board will also be reviewing and discussing a facilities report and summer maintenance projects, holding a public hearing for the district’s contract negotiations with the California School Employees Association, considering revising board policy around interdistrict attendance, as well as considering temporarily changing the rules around high school graduation requirements.
Distance learning to continue to May 1; schools may reopen May 4
Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE) on Wednesday recommended that Sonoma County school districts plan to continue distance learning through at least May 1. This guidance was based on consultation with the Sonoma County Health Officer and was made in consultation with the county superintendents in Napa, Marin, and Solano counties. These counties will also be advising schools to plan for in-person classes to be canceled through May 1.

City’s newest lieutenant rose through ranks
Healdsburg’s newest police lieutenant, Matt Jenkins, 31, was promoted in early December. Jenkins was raised up from patrol sergeant after serving with the Healdsburg Police Department as an officer since May 2003. He celebrated his 10th anniversary on the force just last week.
Sebastopol City Council preview
At its meeting on Tuesday, May 18, the Sebastopol City Council will be holding a public hearing about a program meant to outline the inspection and repair of sewer laterals and will be viewing a handful of presentations ranging in topic from the Russian River Watershed Association to PG&E’s community wildfire program to the city’s own fire department. Solo vehicle crash on Highway 128 kills driver
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 15, a fatal crash occurred on Highway 128 just east of Chalk Hill Road.

The Raven Performing Arts Theater hosts Stephen Sondheim’s massive macabre musical, "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," while The 222 offers Sam Shepard’s more intimate fraternal drama, "True West." Both run in Healdsburg through Nov. 8.
