UPDATE: Measure B tops the two-thirds mark as voting continues and pink slips fly
It’s been a white-knuckle week for the supporters of Measure B, the high school parcel tax measure in west county. At stake is $1.2 million in funding for Analy, El Molino and Laguna high schools. Until yesterday, Wednesday, March 11, Measure B was still one percentage point short of passing, and there are still thousands of votes left to count.

Mayor meeting at the high school — Student journalists from the Hounds Bark at Healdsburg High School arranged a Q&A and discussion meeting with Healdsburg Mayor David Hagele on Feb. 27. Hounds Bark editor-in-chief Emma Tremont said she wanted to give students a chance to find out what’s happening around town and what Hagele’s role is as mayor.
Schools throughout Sonoma County wrestle with when to close on smoky days
Controversy exploded last week when local school districts decided to close, then open, and in a few cases, close again as smoke from the Camp Fire in Butte County reached Sonoma County. Parents took to social media to complain, and districts and the county’s superintendent scrambled to calm fears and frustrations.
A Scream in the Night
The members of Healdsburg’s Noon Rotary got a lesson in “living with lions” (the original name for Quinton Martins’ mountain lion research project, now run in association with Audubon Canyon Ranch), when Ami Bluestone showed up to preview “The Path of Puma-36,” a short movie she made about tracking a collared lion on his search for a place to live in the North Bay.

In its nearly four years of existence, Healdsburg restaurant SingleThread has accrued three Michelin stars, survived two catastrophic wildfires and, now, a pandemic. But as restaurants across the nation are shuttering under shelter-in-place orders, SingleThread’s kitchens are staying open.
County opens parks, while shelter-in-place extension looms
As the pandemic wears on, the eighth COVID-19 Town Hall from Northern California Public Media brought good news and bad news to Sonoma County residents. The good news is that local parks will be reopening this week — though only for those who can get there on two legs (or two wheels). The bad news is you’ll be eager to take advantage of those outdoor opportunities because the shelter-in-place order is about to be extended.
