Mandujano honored for contributions to the fire service
Healdsburg Fire Inspector Ruben Mandujano was honored on Sept. 19 at the California State Firefighters Association conference, held this year in Healdsburg.
Recreational crab season opens
Proving that some parts of living in Sonoma County are still normal, the local Dungeness crab recreational season opened on time this past weekend with the usual hordes of boaters, trappers, campers and kayakers. With the aftermath of the wild fires still occupying thousands of local residents there was some cause for celebrations as the prized crustaceans were off-loaded to waiting boiling pots and side dishes of fresh sourdough, cocktail sauce and (usually) cold beer.
Cloverdale council candidate forum this Thursday
The Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce is hosting a virtual forum for Cloverdale City Council candidates this Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. and will last for a maximum of 90 minutes. The forum will be hosted over Zoom as a ‘webinar.’
City hall, library tagged with graffiti
The exterior walls of the Sebastopol Library and City Hall were tagged with several pieces of graffiti last Wednesday, July 1, or early Thursday morning. Most of the more offensive tags were removed but one “BLM” spray painted tag was still visible Thursday.
Friends, Food, and Fun on Fitch Mountain
The Third Annual Fitch Mountain Fun Night will take place at the Villa Chanticleer Annex on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Although sponsored by the Fitch Mountain Association, as in other years the free event is open to all friends of the mountain, whether they live there or beyond. The dinner will be potluck and the cooking competition will be a cake bake-off. The after-dinner entertainment is “Fitch Mountain Bingo,” with unique cards and a variety of white elephant gifts and local merchant certificates as prizes for letter bingos and blackouts. Stage face-off: Revenge vs. rivalry
Local audiences seeking a solid presentation of an American theatrical classic have two very diverse options right now. The Raven Performing Arts Theater hosts Stephen Sondheim’s massive macabre musical, "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," while The 222 offers Sam Shepard’s more intimate fraternal drama, "True West." Both run in Healdsburg through Nov. 8.
