Special challenges of special education students under quarantine
The sudden shift to remote learning has pushed Sonoma County’s 40 school districts into unchartered territory, testing already-strained resources. For its nearly 400 special education students, the transition has been especially tough, and the stakes could not be higher, as districts plan for summer and fall sessions.

Healdsburg Hospital recognized for opioid safety practices
Healdsburg District Hospital (HDH) has been recognized two years in a row for its work on opioid safety and care on behalf of its local patients and the community. The recognition was awarded by Cal Hospital Compare (CHC) and Healdsburg was one of 53 other hospital sin California to win the Honor Roll status.
Local grapes dominate wine competition
The 2017 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, held at Cloverdale's Citrus Fair last week, is now in the record books. More than 6,700 American wines, from all over the USA, were entered into this year’s competition and after 3.5 days of swirling, sniffing, sipping, spitting and judging six wines received the penultimate recognition of Best of Class Sweepstakes awardees.
Sprucing up the Plaza
City of Healdsburg public works employees replaced the pavers on the corner of the Plaza this week, removing roots underneath that were making the walkway uneven. Portions of the Plaza grass are also still closed for winter re-seeding that occurs annually to strengthen the turf after a summer of heavy use.
Planning commission reviewing Alexander Valley Wellness Center
On Tuesday evening, the Cloverdale Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing to discuss the Alexander Valley Wellness Center design review, conditional use permit and development agreement for Cloverdale’s proposed health care center. The facility is slated to be located on the corner of Cloverdale Boulevard and Citrus Fair Drive, in the currently vacant Thyme Square property. The planning commission meeting is being held both in person and over Zoom at 6:30 p.m. The full agenda can be found here.

Stage face-off: Revenge vs. rivalry
Local audiences seeking a solid presentation of an American theatrical classic have two very diverse options right now. The Raven Performing Arts Theater hosts Stephen Sondheim’s massive macabre musical, "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," while The 222 offers Sam Shepard’s more intimate fraternal drama, "True West." Both run in Healdsburg through Nov. 8.
