WSCUHSD board to appoint new trustee at Sept. 22 meeting

A new face may be joining the West Sonoma County Union High School District (WSCUHSD) school board by the end of its Sept. 22 special meeting, where the board will interview and appoint a new trustee to take former trustee Laurie Fadave’s place.

Summit State Bank supports local nonprofits

Summit State Bank has a unique program that supports dozens of local nonprofit organizations. Earlier this month it distributed $404,162 to 182 nonprofits that participate in its Nonprofit Partner Program. The recipients are all bank customers and participants in the Partner program. Some of the local recipients included the Career Technical Education Foundation, Farm to Fight Hunger, Council on Aging, the Sonoma County Humane Society and the Sonoma County Local News Initiative.

The Healdsburg City Council had a unanimous vote last week in approval of changing the city’s three-stage water shortage contingency plan of the Healdsburg Municipal Code to a six-stage plan, aligning with the California Department of Water Resources recommendations on water contingency plans.

Now we know better. The next time we warn ourselves to be prepared for a big disaster we’d better listen to ourselves and be prepared to take it seriously, right? In late spring we warned this could be a record fire season, enabled by the multi-year drought, hotter weather and uncertain funding for sufficient firefighting forces. Editorials here and elsewhere quoted local fire officials, posting repeated warnings to clear a “defensible perimeter” and practice disaster relief drills. The big disaster the next time could be us, we warned.
