New board of supervisors chair Hopkins names the county’s main priorities for 2021
From the Capitol insurrection to the recent spike in COVID-19, these are precarious times, but on a local level at least, the wheels of government continue to turn. FifthDistrict Supervisor Lynda Hopkins was sworn into her second term of office on Jan. 5, and took over as the new chair of the board of supervisors. The ceremony took place virtually and was performed by her two daughters, 8 and 5, with her 1-year-old son in attendance. Â

Back to the drawing board for dog park plans
At the Feb. 10 meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission, staff presented the outcome of nearly two years of work on adding a new dog park to Windsor, including two options for new locations. However, concerns about the chosen locations and communication with the public and potentially impacted neighbors ultimately saw the commissioners sending the plan back to staff for further outreach and analysis.
Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods launches fire recovery donation campaign
Fingers of the Walbridge Fire burned slowly down slopes and into parts of the forest floor of the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve last week, and while it did not affect any structures or iconic trees such as the 1,400-year-old Colonel Armstrong tree, the fire did back its way down through the Austin Creek State Recreation Area through the Bullfrog Pond Campground, causing damage to picnic tables, bathrooms, fencing and trails.
Local winery raises funds for Redwood Empire Food Bank
Papapietro Perry Winery recently raised $6,000 for the Redwood Empire Food Bank by donating $2 for every bottle of wine sold directly from the winery.
City to move forward with L&M Motel interim housing project
The City of Healdsburg is moving forward with the L&M Motel/Reach for Home interim housing project for the chronically homeless, a move which the city housing administrator and council members say is significant in terms of closing a gap in services and addressing the needs of the local homeless population.
