Healdsburg City Council, school board race shaping up for Nov. 3 election

The filing period for submitting nomination and election forms for the Nov. 3 General Election was extended to Wednesday, Aug. 12 for the Healdsburg City Council and the Healdsburg Unified School District race. Incumbents Councilmember Joe Naujokas and Vice Mayor Shaun McCaffery recently announced their intention to not seek re-election for a second term in office and thus did not file their nomination papers, triggering the five-day extension.

School waivers on hold until data glitches fixed

A waiver system that would have allowed elementary schools (defined as grades K through 6) to open even if their county was on the state’s watchlist has been put on hold as the scope of the problem with the data available has become clear.

Local kids celebrate completion of summer-long art project

Kids in Healdsburg who participated in the Heartizens “Includitude Project,” (HIP) an interactive project that encourages kids to get creative and follow along in a series of art projects with a kit of supplies, celebrated the completion of their work with an Amy’s Wicked Slush at the community center on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Council to review survey, discuss actions related to business recovery

At a special Sebastopol City Council meeting this Wednesday, Aug. 12, the city council members will receive a presentation from CoMission about the local business survey and microsurvey it conducted. The council will also be discussing direction and action relating to helping businesses weather the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting, dubbed a “council study session” will be conducted virtually from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Details to attend via Zoom are located here. 

Busy weekend for law enforcement in Windsor

Windsor police and other local law enforcement agencies were a bit busier than normal this weekend, with two significant calls that garnered a lot of attention and concern.

As Latinx population faces more COVID hurdles, groups say there is aid for food, finance

According to the latest COVID-19 case data by race/ethnicity released by the County of Sonoma, the Latinx/Hispanic population currently accounts for 51% of the coronavirus cases in the county, whereas, only 17% of the county’s cases are among the white demographic. While the disproportionate case numbers (Latinx/Hispanic people make up 25.6% of the county’s population) look grim, local nonprofits and outreach organizations such as Corazón Healdsburg and California Rural Legal Assistance Inc., are reminding folks that help is available for food, rental, housing and legal assistance.

Local races shaping up in Windsor for November election

There will be a variety of seats up for decision by Windsor voters this fall, and with the initial filing deadline in the rearview mirror, the individual races are starting to shape up. The filing deadline was Aug. 7 and not everyone who officially considered a candidacy by “pulling papers” finalized their applications.
