Herrington testifies before congress on disaster impacts on schools
On June 5, Steven D. Herrington, Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools, testified before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education. The hearing, titled, “This is Not a Drill: Education-Related Response and Recovery in the Wake of Natural Disasters” was held at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Sonoma County Biomass Business Competition looking for entries
The Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution Control District (NoSoCoAir), in partnership with local and state business and forestry leaders, launched the Sonoma County Biomass Business Competition (BioBiz) on Feb. 1, 2021. The competition is underway and receiving entries now through March 26, 2021. Though the north county agency is leading the competition, any local Sonoma County entity can take home one of the prizes.

Monte Rio property slated for county park and open space
Sonoma County Regional Parks purchased 515 acres of land in Monte Rio for future use as a county park and open space preserve. The $3.9 million purchase was approved by the county board of supervisors in August and the land was purchased in October.
