Full agenda on the future of the district at HUSD meeting

It will be a full meeting at the April 18 meeting of the Healdsburg Unified School District, with the physical and curricular future of the district up for discussion.

Million dollar grant to expand high school construction training program

The Career Technical Education Foundation Sonoma County has been approved for a $1 million grant from Tipping Point Community, a prominent Bay Area funder that fights poverty in the Bay Area, to support expansion of a successful local youth training program called the North Bay Construction Corps. The funding is part of their Emergency Relief Fund, established to support the North Bay’s recovery and rebuilding efforts following the devastating fires last year that damaged thousands of homes and businesses.

Healdsburg City Council to discuss new subdivisions

The Healdsburg City Council is scheduled to review and possibly approve two new housing projects Monday night. The 29-unit “Oaks at Foss Creek” subdivision near the corner of Grove and Chiquita Roads, has been extensively reviewed by the Healdsburg Planning Commission, which resulted in multiple revisions of the plan before it was approved.

Fitch Mountain Forever fundraiser and hike is next weekend, April 22

The Fitch Mountain Fund will host the Fitch Mountain Forever fundraiser and hike on Sunday, April 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Villa Chanticleer in Healdsburg. Fitch Mountain Park and Open Space Preserve, the 173 acres on top of Fitch Mountain, was officially transferred to the City of Healdsburg in November 2017.

Jonah Raskin explores dark mysteries of wine country, April 19

Jonah Raskin, emeritus Sonoma State University professor, writer and former radical journalist visited local booksellers. “I talked to booksellers a couple of years ago, and asked, ‘Are there any wine country murder mysteries you recommend to tourists?’ and they said no. They talk to tourists who come in all the time and say they want a murder mystery that’s set in Sonoma, and the booksellers say there really isn’t one.” So Raskin wrote one.
