Partially-virtual Citrus Fair begins Friday
The Cloverdale Citrus Fair is a few days away. This year’s fair includes an in-person drive-thru food frenzy and a bevy of online contests and exhibit entries — some of which will be viewable from a distance during the fair food frenzy. While many of the different pieces of this year’s fair will be accessible online from the comfort of home, the food frenzy will run from Friday to Sunday, Feb. 12-14, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Saralee McClelland Kunde died this week. She was 66 and had battled cancer for several years. Those who knew her understand what a loss this is for the county. They already know her almost unbelievably important role in creating the myth and magic of Sonoma County.
Recreational crab season opens
Proving that some parts of living in Sonoma County are still normal, the local Dungeness crab recreational season opened on time this past weekend with the usual hordes of boaters, trappers, campers and kayakers. With the aftermath of the wild fires still occupying thousands of local residents there was some cause for celebrations as the prized crustaceans were off-loaded to waiting boiling pots and side dishes of fresh sourdough, cocktail sauce and (usually) cold beer.
Commentary: The need for a new approach to addiction
Recently, our 37-year-old son Morgan died of an accidental heroin overdose. He was an avid surfer who dodged big waves and sharks, but could not dodge addiction. We are devastated by his unexpected and untimely death.
Creativity on display at Healdsburg Junior High
Last week Healdsburg Junior High held its first Annual Creative Exhibition, showcasing the hard work and imagination of students from six different elective courses. Students, parents and teachers gathered at the multi-purpose room, where artwork lined the walls, robot obstacle courses took center stage and throwback songs like the Macarena were cued up by the effervescent Spanish teacher, Carlos Diaz. The six electives represented were Fine Arts, Recycled Arts, Robotics, Spanish, Leadership and Technology, and for each area students chose to display a piece of work they were most proud of from the current school year.
Police tangle with felon in downtown Graton
On April 4 at approximately 4:40 p.m., deputies responded to a call in the 8500 block of Trenton Road in Forestville. The caller reported a man and a woman came to the house earlier in the day making threats. The suspects had just returned, pointed a handgun at the caller, then drove away.
