On a day dialed up by the Point Arena Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewell, came, saw and listened. I attended Friday’s environmental love fest on behalf of Sonoma County Supervisor Mike McGuire who is running for the 2nd District Senate seat in which the beautiful 1,664 acre Stornetta Public Lands is being considered for a land inclusion into the California Coastal National Monument.  McGuire’s time is now limited as he is speaking to the Kiwanis, Rotarians and special interest groups times the seven counties in the district.

Fitch Mountain Forever fundraiser and hike is next weekend, April 22

The Fitch Mountain Fund will host the Fitch Mountain Forever fundraiser and hike on Sunday, April 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Villa Chanticleer in Healdsburg. Fitch Mountain Park and Open Space Preserve, the 173 acres on top of Fitch Mountain, was officially transferred to the City of Healdsburg in November 2017.

The U.S. National Weather Service for the San Francisco Bay Area/Monterey California (NWS) has issued a Red Flag Warning from 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, through 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, for the hills surrounding Sonoma County.

Sebastopol City Council preview

The Sebastopol City Council  is set to discuss a bevy of items including conservation measures for commercial and industrial water customers, adopting its final budget and discussing whether to have a lottery for its firework event permit, among others at its regular meeting July 20. In addition to regular council business, the council will be viewing a presentation from Sebastopol Police Chief Kevin Kilgore on the status of recommendations set forth in the independent review of the police department performed by Jerry Threet, as well as on the Open Government Policing PILOT Program.
