West County High activists ask for plaques removal
Students from West County High School (WCHS) have voiced their concerns over two plaques at the school they believe promote racism and xenophobia. An April 13 West Sonoma County High School District Board of Trustees meeting included an agenda item about the plaque removal request. Public comments focused on concerns regarding what the plaques may represent.
Healdsburg council to tackle Reach Code update, equity consulting work at next meeting
The Healdsburg City Council has a big agenda on tap for its next meeting on Feb. 7. The council will consider approving recommended allocations for Community Response Grants and will receive a presentation from the Acosta Latino Learning Partnership, the recommended diversity, equity and inclusion city consultant.
New board of supervisors chair Hopkins names the county’s main priorities for 2021
From the Capitol insurrection to the recent spike in COVID-19, these are precarious times, but on a local level at least, the wheels of government continue to turn. FifthDistrict Supervisor Lynda Hopkins was sworn into her second term of office on Jan. 5, and took over as the new chair of the board of supervisors. The ceremony took place virtually and was performed by her two daughters, 8 and 5, with her 1-year-old son in attendance. Â
As Windsor grows, police and fire say additional infrastructure is needed
Windsor’s annual growth report, released in December last year, showed that while many projects have been delayed and the population of Windsor decreased for a second year in a row last year, growth is, one way or another, on the horizon in Sonoma County’s fourth largest city.
