State and county partner to halt river pollution
State and county officials have come up with a new cooperative plan to solve Russian River pollution problems caused by substandard septic systems, homeless camps and river recreational users.
Helping seniors DASH around
Drivers Assisting Seniors in Healdsburg, DASH, was unveiled June 17 and had its first ride on June 25, and since then the program has completed around 200 rides in their all electric vehicles for residents over 60 years old.
No new business at next council meeting
The next meeting of the Cloverdale City Council, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. will be small, and likely short in duration. The council will be viewing one presentation, approving its consent calendar and discussing no new business items. Tragic weekend reminds that the Sonoma coast can be dangerous
The Sonoma County coastline proved its perilous nature again when Michael Wyman, 40, of Petaluma, died Jan. 3 after a large wave pulled him and his two young children out to sea near Goat Rock in Jenner.
The state of California prisons
For the last 15 years, I have been a volunteer in prisons, teaching convicted felons in the field of sociology and running self-help groups. Most of my students are “lifers,” men who have been convicted of serious crimes like murder, rape, or burglary for which they have received sentences of 15 years to life and much more. None of them are on death row, and most are now eligible for parole, having served their minimum sentences. Often, they have served far longer.
BayREN energy-efficiency services available to Windsor residents
According to a presentation at the Dec. 15 Windsor Town Council meeting, Windsor residents and business owners might consider pursuing rebates for energy efficiency upgrades and appliances at their homes and establishments through the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) program.

West County High activists ask for plaques removal
Students from West County High School (WCHS) have voiced their concerns over two plaques at the school they believe promote racism and xenophobia. An April 13 West Sonoma County High School District Board of Trustees meeting included an agenda item about the plaque removal request. Public comments focused on concerns regarding what the plaques may represent.
