Winter wonderland — An uncharacteristic blanket of snow hugged the eastern hills on Feb.5 as an arctic weather system dropped snow levels to a few hundred feet. The Geysers, Mount St. Helena and other peaks gleamed white in the morning sun as freezing temperatures descended on the area.
World-renowned artist designs Russian River Creative Reopening installations
Welcoming messages for businesses and principles of pandemic safety have arrived in a series of art installations throughout the Russian River area by Jim Isermann, part-time local and world-famous artist. The project was a business match made in a diner for Bob Pullum, creative director of the “Creative ReOpening Project” of the Russian River and Monte Rio Chambers of Commerce.
Commentary: The problem with Calpers
CALPERS is the pseudo government agency set up to manage the defined benefit retirement program for government employees. Their charter is to collect retirement contributions, invest these contributions to maximize return and provide defined benefits to the actual retiree. CALPERS is controlled by and largely for the benefit of the legislature and government employees.
