Nail salons in state can reopen indoors
A bit of good news for Californians who have been putting off their mani-pedis because of the pandemic: the state will relax restrictions on nail salons and allow them to resume indoor operations with some modifications, the state’s top health official said yesterday.
Healdsburg woman makes masks for community members
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, many people in Sonoma County and around the world have taken to creating masks for healthcare workers, frontline personnel and community members. Longtime Healdsburg quilters Denise Feldman has put a pause on her quilt making to join the cause. She now makes between 15-20 masks a day, which she distributes from her front porch to community members.
Alumni and community rally against renaming Analy High School
The realization that the planned consolidation of Analy and El Molino high schools this fall marks the end of Analy’s 113-year legacy has set in for its alumni and other community members and they’re not having it.
Rotary hosts candidate forum — The mayoral candidates
The Rotary Club of Windsor hosted its candidate forum for town council and mayoral candidates on Sept. 17, but this time instead of the normal in-person format, it took place over Zoom. The host, as in year’s past, was Maureen Merrill and a timekeeper was present on the Zoom to keep people’s answers time appropriate.
Fire destroys outbuilding and damages vacant home south of downtown
Fire fighters from Sebastopol Fire Department, Graton, Gold Ridge and the city of Santa Rosa converged on a two-alarm fire at the corner of Walker and Petaluma avenues on Monday afternoon, which burned down an outbuilding and damaged the back of a vacant home on the same lot.“We were able to save the house by getting there quickly and putting the fire under control,” said Sebastopol Fire Chief Bill Braga.With such a massive response, the fire was put out quickly, but smoke billowed down Petaluma Avenue, causing the closure of the street.Braga said no one was injured in the fire, which started in a small outbuilding and spread to the vacant home, which Braga said had been empty for eight to 10 years.The source of the blaze is currently unknown. “We are still doing an investigation,” Braga said. Stage face-off: Revenge vs. rivalry
Local audiences seeking a solid presentation of an American theatrical classic have two very diverse options right now. The Raven Performing Arts Theater hosts Stephen Sondheim’s massive macabre musical, "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," while The 222 offers Sam Shepard’s more intimate fraternal drama, "True West." Both run in Healdsburg through Nov. 8.
