SSU Student Works to End Global Poverty

I am a Sonoma State University student interning for The Borgen Project as a project ambassador. We are a nonprofit organization working to end global poverty by making it a focus of U.S. foreign policy.  The world and our lives extend far beyond ourselves. We...

Bray Bro Makes His Voice Heard

Did you ever find yourself falling in love with a donkey? Wait. Wait! Don’t answer that!  My closest neighbor is a donkey. Arturo is not a mean donkey, but he’s not sweet either. The other day, he got into it with the llama. It was...

Addressing L & M Village Concerns

Following a recent article in the ‘Tribune,’ “Work Begins at L&M Village for the Unsheltered” (Sept. 8, 2022), the executive director of Reach for Home contacted the editor to clarify some issues the article raised, to assist community members in understanding the project.  Dear Editor: Thank...

Bee Well

Wow, we really loved seeing old, lifetime Healdsburg people share their talents, especially Dana DiRicco and Lorraine Ham (94 years old) teach us, and young people too, how to properly make a pie crust—revealing all their secrets! And everyone was wide-eyed seeing a whole hive...

Crepe myrtles are known for vivid colors. This vibrant specimen shames the bright red painted curb at Safeway with a profusion of panicles. A panicle is a loose branching bunch of flowers, or if you prefer: a branched indeterminate inflorescence of racemes with pedicels....

Bourgeois Paradise in Twilight of Empire

When you’re young, downtown is where your life unfolds. It starts at 12 with the comic book shop, moves on to the record store and skateboarding, which is followed by clothes at the mall and finally literature at the bookstore, which is read and...

This Week in H’burg… Mister Scribbles’ Masterpiece

Reportedly, 17 years ago this wall at Fitch and Powell was a blank concrete block wall.  Often it would be “tagged.” That is until somebody decided to do something about it.  That somebody was eight-year-old Haley Fincher. She and her friends took it upon themselves,...
