During the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, Shira Shafir was trying to make vaccine appointments for some colleagues at UCLA. 

The Windsor Unified School District Board of Trustees are meeting on Tuesday evening, Nov. 9. The board will be receiving reports about enrollment, Windsor High School athletics, as well as holding the first reading of the educator effectiveness expenditure plans for both the district and for Cali Calmécac Language Arts Academy. School board trustees will also receive a COVID update from Superintendent Jeremy Decker, specifically asking them to consider either continuing or ending the district’s outdoor masking requirement and will receive a presentation on the school plans for student achievement.

At a joint Windsor Town Council and Planning Commission on Nov. 9, Town of Windsor officials will receive information on the ongoing update of the town’s housing element, an aspect of the general plan the State of California requires cities to update every eight years, as well as the safety element.

Last week, the Healdsburg Police Department introduced its new Community Oriented and Equity (CORE) Policing Team, composed of a sworn officer and a licensed marriage family therapist who will respond to homeless, mental health, parking and neighbor dispute related calls. Healdsburg Officer Kristin Dean and newly-hired marriage family therapist Jeff McGee make up the CORE team.

As Sonoma County’s agriculture industry grows, the agriculture classes available to students in the county are also growing. For some students in Cloverdale, these classes offer them an opportunity to both think more critically about the agriculture industry that surrounds them and learn more about sustainable farming practices.

The changeover from an at-large to a by-trustee voting area system in the West Sonoma County Union High School District (WSCUHSD) is getting real, and quickly. The district released three draft voting area maps ahead of a first hearing, scheduled for Nov. 10.

Updates to Cloverdale’s public pool have been a long time coming. After work was stalled for several years due to the pool needing code improvements, an injection of funds from Sonoma County’s Capital Improvement Plan has reinvigorated the renovation effort.
