With Halloween swiftly approaching, Cloverdale is pulling out all of the stops — downtown trick-or-treating, a trunk-or-treat and a parade, there’s something for everyone.

 

Sebastopol wasn’t always the heart and hub of bicycling in Sonoma County. Once upon a time, there were 18 gas stations posted across the little city built for cars, and if you visit the West County Museum, you’ll find that once upon a time spanned most of the 20th century.

Partnering with the City of Healdsburg, Corazón Healdsburg is set to bring back its annual Día de Muertos event to the Healdsburg Plaza on Oct. 31.The nonprofit organization opened its doors to the community with its first Día de Muertos event in 2016 and is pleased to honor the day in-person again after not being able to last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.“This year feels particularly important,” said Corazón CEO Glaydon de Freitas. “With more than 400 Sonoma County residents lost to COVID-19 and the many other challenges the pandemic has brought, our families have weathered a lot. As we honor our dead, we hope to bring our community safely together in recognition of all that we have been through and all that we share.”

The Sebastopol Police Department is searching for a suspect still at large who was involved in a shooting that injured one person this morning at the Safeway parking lot in Sebastopol.

Sebastopol was not Sonoma County’s hardest hit by the major storm over the weekend, but Sebastopol Fire Chief Bill Braga said his department fielded over a dozen 911 calls for downed trees and powerlines and other weather-related emergencies during the weather events.

The Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) is receiving $1,697,674 in funding from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III fund and plans to use the funding to provide additional staff and support services such as social-emotional curriculum.

According to Cloverdale Mayor Marta Cruz, the Cloverdale City Park will be closed for the next two days, reopening on Wednesday, due to the weekend’s heavy rain.

According to the Sonoma County Office of Education, flooding and/or power outages has caused the following west county schools to be closed for the day.
