Each Memorial Day, I submit stories of Cloverdale soldiers who have died in service to our country. In the Veterans Building at 205 W. First St., we have a memorial wall of all the Cloverdale servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. On this Memorial Day we honor the sacrifice of Second Lieutenant Richard Wells who lived on Commercial Street, just down the street from the Veteran’s building.

The first day trip of the Sebastopol WALKS program of 2022 is around the corner after being postponed for two years due to the pandemic. The public is invited to a three to four-mile stroll dubbed “Peace Poles Potpourri” this Saturday, Feb. 26 guided by Councilmember Sarah Glade Gurney.

Tania Romanov Amochaev will speak and read from her new book this Wednesday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at the Healdsburg Regional Library.

Board also reviews charter school report, equity task force report

Amid a dwindling water utility fund, the Healdsburg City Council is considering the possibility of increasing water rates by roughly the equivalence of two 5.4% rate increases. Rate prices will vary per household and some may see an over $7 increase.

The town of Windsor sponsored a home decorating contest this year as part of its virtual holiday activities, and on Dec. 17 they announced that after careful deliberation, there was a four-way tie for first place. The winners were 932 Robbie Way, 530 Quince Street, 9511 Lazy Creek Drive and 322 Alexis Street.
