City Report: Fireworks spark long Monday meeting
The Healdsburg City Council met for over five hours on Monday evening, Oct. 12, at City Hall. Among other topics the council discussed the future of the July 4 fireworks show and staffing for the new Fire Station No. 2.

Utarid steps down as head of arts center
The board of directors at Sebastopol Center for the Arts (SCA) has announced that Anjana Utarid, SCA’s executive director for the past two years, will be stepping down from her position as head of the arts center. The newly established role of Creative Director will be filled in the interim by longtime Visual Arts Director Catherine Devriese. Matthew Groff, who is currently director of operations, will be interim managing director.
Letters: The Depot dilemma
"In July, 75 percent of voters in Sonoma and Marin Counties voted to extend SMART’s sales tax," writes one reader. "Many of us did so hoping the train would get people out of their cars, a key SMART goal. In December, the SMART board will decide where Healdsburg’s station goes, and that choice will decide whether the train does what we voted for. "
Resident arrested for suspected sex crimes, distribution and possession of child pornography
A Healdsburg resident was arrested on Sept. 3 for suspected sex crimes. Nelson Herrera Soriano, 28, was booked in jail on charges of communicating with a minor with the intent of committing a sex crime and possession and distribution of obscene material of a child under 14 years of age.

Stage face-off: Revenge vs. rivalry
Local audiences seeking a solid presentation of an American theatrical classic have two very diverse options right now. The Raven Performing Arts Theater hosts Stephen Sondheim’s massive macabre musical, "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," while The 222 offers Sam Shepard’s more intimate fraternal drama, "True West." Both run in Healdsburg through Nov. 8.
