Year in Review: Law enforcement and crime

In an eight-part series we look back at the world that was, here in our little corner of it. 2020 was a year of challenges. We’ll be publishing this eight piece work daily as we work to the new year. Today’s piece is on the work of police, and the crime they stopped in Windsor.

Supes approve plan to address homelessness on Rodota Trail

At a special public meeting on Dec. 23, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $12 million plan to address the homelessness crisis along the Joe Rodota Trail. The meeting came on the heels of a Dec. 17 meeting where the board of supervisors declared “a homeless emergency” on the trail and allocated an initial $25,000 for homeless outreach.

Jason Mora of Healdsburg has successfully completed the 28-week cadet-training course at the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Academy. He is assigned to duty at the CHP’s Santa Rosa Area office.

Turkey Giveaway, Nov. 22

GOBBLE — Community members gathered in front of the Cloverdale Food Pantry on Friday, Nov. 22 to pick up Thanksgiving staples — turkeys, stuffing and a pie. On Nov. 21, Shalia Vanderweken and Brenda Vronoski held their annual Turkey Round-up, collecting donations of money and turkeys from those able to donate. The community donations provided around 100 turkeys to be given out at the food pantry on Friday. Vanderweken and Vronoski said that they are appreciative of both the community and local service clubs for supporting the round-up year after year.

West County High School students start the year

It couldn’t be an ordinary first day back to school at West County High School in Sebastopol, on Thursday, Aug. 12. Teenagers of the new consolidated school milled about and threw their arms around friends, though a staff person offered blue surgical masks as they headed to the outdoor stadium for a rally.

Rob Daly takes the helm at Acre Coffee

Acre Coffee announced this morning that it has changed ownership. Founder Steve Decosse has sold the ownership of the coffee portion of the business to longtime local coffee guy, Rob Daly, former CEO of Taylor Maid Coffee (before it became Taylor Lane).
