Flashbacks for April 4, 2024

100 years ago this week: With many residents of this city and its outlying valleys and many visitors from other parts of the county present, a new subordinate grange was organized in Healdsburg Monday night. The organization meeting was held in Red Men’s Hall, 43 persons having signed as charter members. The charter is to be kept open until next Saturday, when a meeting will be held for the purpose of closing it.

Sculptor Spotlight: T Barny

 T Barny of Healdsburg is exhibiting with his sculpture “Spokes” in the Cloverdale Sculpture Trail. His sculpture “Spokes” consists of three metal wagon wheels with mirrors in the center of each patinaed metal wheel. This is a departure from his usual choice of material, stone. T Barny has worked with many materials, including glass and bronze, yet, he returns to his first love, stone. He has carved 205 individual types of stone from around the world.

Supes approve plan to address homelessness on Rodota Trail

At a special public meeting on Dec. 23, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $12 million plan to address the homelessness crisis along the Joe Rodota Trail. The meeting came on the heels of a Dec. 17 meeting where the board of supervisors declared “a homeless emergency” on the trail and allocated an initial $25,000 for homeless outreach.

Water Agency’s Davis appointed new state water resources chief

California Governor Jerry Brown has named Sonoma County Water Agency General Manager Grant Davis as the new director of the California Department of Water Resources (DWR). The appointment, which requires state Senate confirmation, means Davis takes over Aug. 1 as head of the state agency that oversees California’s water supplies.
