Almost a year after the secluded Mill Creek community in unincorporated western Healdsburg was devastated by the Walbridge Fire, recovery work is still ongoing. Trucks and heavy equipment roar up the quiet, winding roads, passing leveled properties and scarred landscapes during the weekdays as Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) works on two major projects, post-fire tree and vegetation work and the enhanced vegetation management (EVM) program.
Cloverdale moves to mandatory 35% water use reduction
Cloverdale’s water restrictions are tightening to a 35% mandatory reduction in water use. The Cloverdale City Council unanimously voted on Aug. 11 to declare a Stage 4 water shortage emergency, and to increase its water reduction goal for the city from 25% to 35%. The decision comes a little over a week after the State Water Control Board issued curtailments for senior water rights holders in the upper Russian River, which includes Cloverdale.
River history calendar captures the old days
The Russian River Historical Society’s new 2020 calendar offers a fresh look at the past along the Russian River. The calendar’s dates include memorable moments in lower Russian River history such as the anniversaries of major floods — the New Year’s Day flood of 1997 is duly noted on January 1, along with the New Year’s flood of 2006.
