Thousands of people visited last weekend’s Steelhead Festival at Warm Springs Dam and Lake Sonoma. The people outnumbered the fish — and that has been our problem in the Russian River watershed for the last 60 years. The epic winter runs of spawning steelhead that once numbered over 50,000 are now down to a very few thousand, if that many.

Sebastopol council OKs mandatory 25% water reduction
Sebastopolians are about to have more stringent water use guidelines. The city is moving from requesting a voluntary 10% systemwide water reduction to making a 25% reduction mandatory. On July 6, the Sebastopol City Council unanimously voted in favor of a resolution bumping the city up to Stage 2 of its water conservation plan, a decision that reflects the sense of immediacy surrounding the drought.
Special Sebastopol council meeting set to tackle leftovers from last week
The Sebastopol City Council is holding a special meeting this Wednesday, July 28, to work through some of the items it had planned to work through during a meeting on July 20. The lengthy regular meeting stretched to midnight, causing the council to continue its remaining agenda to this Wednesday. While the full meeting agenda boasts about eight items, the council is restricted in how long it can meet on Wednesday, with the meeting scheduled to last from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The full agenda can be found here.

The Rotary Club of Sebastopol is giving money to the Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce to distribute to small businesses in Sebastopol with store fronts.
