Nonprofit to offer free emergency preparedness workshops

In a recent “Community Conversation” on July 15, Corazón Healdsburg announced that it will be offering a series of free online emergency preparedness classes in both English and Spanish with Nuestra Comunidad, a local nonprofit that helps educate folks on emergency and disaster preparedness through public outreach and training.

History award winner Mel Amato dies

With the snip of a red ribbon with a pair of giant scissors in August 2016, it was preordained what the first sentence of Healdsburg’s Mel Amato’s obituary would contain, whenever that time would come. Amato was the man who almost singlehandedly saved Healdsburg’s Memorial Bridge from demolition by Caltrans, deploying all of his engineering prowess to repudiate a cadre of Caltrans engineers and prove the historic landmark was worthy of preservation. The Ohio native lived his last two decades in Healdsburg contributing to many community and local historical causes. He died on Nov. 16 at the age of 86.

Construction of SMART Windsor Extension project resuming May 4

According to a statement from Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART) Construction, work on the Windsor Extension project is slated to resume on Monday, May 4. In compliance with local public health ordinances restricting this type of work due to COVID-19, construction activity was temporarily suspended in early April. As construction work on this project resumes, the field crews and contractors will continue to comply with all public health directives.
