The following snippets of history are drawn from the pages of the Healdsburg Tribune, the Healdsburg Enterprise and the Sotoyome Scimitar, and are prepared by the volunteers at the Healdsburg Museum & Historical Society. Admission is always free at the museum, open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
An urgent appeal for support
Early in 2013, the new members of the Board of Directors of the Healdsburg Animal Shelter confronted the task of examining the Shelter’s business model and dealing with its continuing operating losses—losses that had severely eroded the Shelter’s financial reserves. In providing the high level of care that the Healdsburg community has come to expect, the Shelter has now exhausted nearly all its operating reserves. Today we need community support—more than ever in the Shelter’s 53-year history—to keep the Shelter operating and fulfilling its mission.
New recycling and redemption center open in Sebastopol
The new Beverage Container Recycling Pilot Program has come to Sebastopol. A new recycling kiosk housed in a shipping container is now open at the north end of town in the Community Church of Sebastopol parking lot at 1000 Gravenstein Highway N.Â
Long-awaited Suffragist Exhibit opens to the public at the West County Museum
The West County Museum was all set to open their Suffragist Exhibit in March 2020, when the world shut down for more than a year for COVID-19. Like everything else, the museum closed its doors, and for the past year, the exhibit has stood draped and unvisited behind the museum’s stone walls, perfectly preserved, like sleeping beauty’s castle.
Inspiring potluck event for college-bound students
On Tuesday, Feb. 27, a select group of Healdsburg High School students who aspire to attend four-year colleges attended an inspiring potluck dinner at the Healdsburg Community Center, hosted by FirstGen College Counseling and Corazón Healdsburg.

New law provides record of officer fired for pot
A recent records request from Healdsburg Police Department shows that Ryan Howard was fired from the force for distributing marijuana that was in police evidence to a resident that did not have rights to it, and for providing false information to the department in a subsequent report.
The band plays on at HUSD meeting
The first meeting of 2017 of the Healdsburg Unified School District Board of Trustees got of to a raucous start as the Healdsburg Junior High/High School Band opened the meeting with performance, led by teacher and bandleader John Natelli. The full house cheered at the music, which set the tone for a generally cheerful meeting.
Windsor council reviewing climate plan, Keiser Park plan progress
At the Feb. 2 Windsor Town Council meeting, council members will receive a presentation on accessory dwelling units, review the Climate Resilence Plan, receive a status report on the Keiser Park Master Plan Update and consider amendments to the municipal code regarding enforcement.
