New guidance on best Thanksgiving practices to prevent the spread of COVID

On Nov. 9 the County of Sonoma announced it had joined nine other Bay Area counties to issue the same recommendations for safer holidays and travel. Sonoma, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Mateo, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz counties and the city of Berkeley are aligned in how best to safely celebrate the upcoming winter gatherings and what to consider if you must travel in order to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

Stabbing ends in juvenile arrest

On Monday night, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m., Cloverdale police officers responded to reports of a physically violent domestic incident on the 100 block of Grace Court. After responding and conducting further investigation, a 17-year-old female was arrested and transported to Juvenile Hall for California Penal Code sections 245(a)(1)PC-Assault with a deadly weapon and 368 (b)(2)PC-Elder abuse causing great bodily injury.

Victory parade

A parade of some 30-odd cars filled with joyous voters wound its way from Santa Rosa to the Windsor Town Green, celebrating the victory of president-elect Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris. Cars were decorated with flags, banners and stickers, and drivers honked their horns and waved and cheered at the small crowd greeting them at the Green. California state senator Mike McGuire and newly elected Rohnert Park Councilmember Jackie Elward were participants in the parade organized by Pat Sabo of the Sonoma County Democrats.

Former Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy indicted by grand jury for use of excessive force

In a statement released on Nov. 6, the district attorney’s office announced that former Sheriff’s Deputy Charlie Blount has been indicted on two felony charges for his role in the death of David Glen Ward, which occurred on Nov. 27, 2019. The charges include involuntary manslaughter and assault under color of authority. Both charges include an allegation of personal infliction of great bodily harm. After self-surrendering on an arrest warrant, Blount will be arraigned on Nov. 12, 2020.    

WSCUHSD board presents budget and consolidation scenarios

The West Sonoma County Union High School District (WSCUHSD) Board of Trustees gave a new presentation on budget realities, scenarios and next steps during its Nov. 4 town hall regarding its upcoming decision on whether to consolidate Analy, El Molino and Laguna high schools.
