Election 2020 

Healdsburg sees uptick in car thefts

The Healdsburg Police Department took six reports of stolen vehicles between July 15 and July 18, according to police logs and recent statements on the department’s Facebook page. So far, several arrests have been made and three of the stolen vehicles have been recovered.

Nomination period nearing for November election

The nomination period for the upcoming election opened up on July 13. For west county, that means that folks looking to run for a variety of boards — including school board, fire district boards and city council — are able to throw their hat into the ring to be placed on the Nov. 3 ballot. The nomination period is open until Friday, Aug. 7.

More details becoming clear for school reopening

At a pair of webinars July 22 and 23, the Sonoma County Office of education presented the latest information and rulings about schools reopening. The first was presented with a focus on information for families, the second was more focused on administrators and school officials. 

WUSD to do distance learning through late September

In a letter dated July 24, Windsor Unified School District and Superintendent Jeremy Decker announced that WUSD will be doing distance learning only through Sept. 25. It also announced that school will likely open four days later than planned, on Aug. 17.

Special board meeting for WUSD to handle COVID-related housekeeping

A special board meeting of the Windsor Unified School District Board of trustees has been called for July 27 to deal with a few housekeeping items amongst the changing landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Healdsburg City Council to consider Plaza Street closure

The Healdsburg City Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, July 27 at 5 p.m. to discuss and consider a proposal to limit parts of Plaza Street between Healdsburg Avenue and Center Street to cars to allow for more pedestrian use and additional social distancing space for retailers and restaurants. If agreed to, the limitation — either a one-way configuration or a full closure — would remain in place through Labor Day as a trial run.

Virtual health fair scheduled for Aug. 12

A virtual health fair will be held Wednesday, Aug. 12 for Healdsburg and north county parents and families sponsored by the Healdsburg District Hospital, Alliance Medical Center and Corazon Healdsburg.
