COVID-19 cases, new syndrome on the rise among children, especially Latino children
At least seven California children have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began, more than 350,000 kids have tested positive for the virus and the number of youngsters diagnosed with a new, rare inflammatory syndrome continues to spread.

WALKING FOR WATER — The Cloverdale High School Key Club hosted its first annual Save the Rain-Bow Color Blast on Sept. 15. According to Key Club Advisor Sue Cummins, the blast had a total of 21 volunteers (from the Kiwanis Club, Key Club and Builders Club) and 64 participants. Blast attendees of all ages ran, walked and jogged their way through stations of colored cornstarch. The Key Club raised approximately $1900, which will go toward bringing clean water to 125 children in Africa.
STEM building at high school to be dedicated in honor of science teachers
Two beloved science teachers will be remembered at a dedication ceremony later this month. Healdsburg Unified School District will honor Mark Giampaoli and Carlo Filippi, former science educators at Healdsburg High School and dedicating The Giampaoli-Filippi STEM Center in their memory.
Aspiring to be tobacco free
Imagine that you’re sitting with a friend, they’re vaping, and suddenly they start to choke on the aerosol they’re inhaling. In an effort to save them, you go through a door that transports you to “smoke city,” an alternate reality where tobacco rules. From there, you have to complete a series of tasks and tests in order to find your friend, who’s still having a negative reaction to the vape. That’s the premise of ASPIRE (A Smoking Prevention Interactive Experience), a game developed to help educate young people on the impacts of tobacco and nicotine.

Windsor’s pioneer woman suffragist
In 2020 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the United States. Shortly after the pandemic shut us down, Paula Freund and John Sheehy from the Petaluma Museum Association called with a question about the Latimer family. A researcher had discovered the name “Mrs. Judge Latimer” in the book, “History of Woman Suffrage” by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and asked if we were familiar with her.
