HUSD hopes to begin required ethnic studies course next year

The Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) is pursuing the implementation of a district-wide ethnic studies program as well as a required one-semester ethnic studies course for all freshman students starting as soon as next year.

The North Bay Construction Corps (NBCC), a construction exploration and training program for local high school seniors in their last semester of high school, is now accepting applications for the 2019 corps.  There will be three chapters in Sonoma County — Sonoma, Rohnert Park and Healdsburg.

Group of dedicated local knitters organizing co-op to maintain Purls of Joy store

The founder and owner of the popular knitting shop Purls of Joy is retiring at the end of this month and, in an effort to keep the shop going and the friendly store spirit alive, a group of about 50 local knitters are working to form a member-driver co-op to maintain the business.

The Cloverdale City Council has a small but mighty agenda for its meeting Wednesday night, Jan. 25. The council is slated to discuss its American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) spending plan, consider amending its decision to purchase a Portland Loo restroom for the Plaza and lastly, to review and consider options relating to the sale, possession and use of fireworks in town, including potentially placing a measure to ban fireworks on an upcoming ballot.
