Controversy exploded last week when local school districts decided to close, then open, and in a few cases, close again as smoke from the Camp Fire in Butte County reached Sonoma County. Parents took to social media to complain, and districts and the county’s superintendent scrambled to calm fears and frustrations.
Food for Fines launches this week
The Sonoma County Library is once again partnering with local food banks to help our communities this holiday season. The annual Food for Fines program allows library patrons to return overdue library materials and “pay off” their fines by donating food to those in need.

Healdsburg 18-year-old sentenced after high-speed chase
An 18-year-old Healdsburg man was sentenced to one year in county jail and three years’ probation after a high speed chase in June led to the discovery of illegal drugs, weapons and a large stash of cash.
Healdsburg police revive man with Narcan, marks second use of the drug
On Nov. 13 Healdsburg officers responded to a call of an unconscious man found in a CVS bathroom where he was later successfully revived with Narcan, an opioid suppressing nasal spray that blocks the opioid receptors in the brain. This marks the second time in less than a month that officers have successfully used and administered the drug.
High school seniors can apply for builders corps
The North Bay Construction Corps (NBCC), a construction exploration and training program for local high school seniors in their last semester of high school, is now accepting applications for the 2019 corps. There will be three chapters in Sonoma County — Sonoma, Rohnert Park and Healdsburg.
