HUSD revenue loss ‘pales in comparison’ to neighboring districts

The Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) is projecting around a 10 to 15% revenue loss in state aid, as well as a 20% cut in lottery funds and federal title dollars, and while this may seem like a big chunk, the district says it will fair a bit better than districts that rely on state funding.

A look at distance learning in local schools

Despite the difficulties that distance learning may bring, several small Healdsburg schools are getting creative with their distance learning plans and are seeing success. Some smaller schools, like the Alexander Valley School (AVS), are reporting a high percentage of student attendance and that students and teachers are starting to fall in line with the new routine of learning at home.

The Sonoma County Civil Grand Jury tackled several big issues this year, including health treatment in the county jail, protecting local water systems against earthquakes, problems with the county’s mental health budget and the chronic neglect of county-owned properties. Hilberman is new director of the Russian River Valley Winegrowers

In December, the Russian River Valley Winegrowers Association hired marketing and communications professional Wendy Hilberman as its new executive director. Hilberman is now the point person in charge of promoting the area’s wineries and the vast tourism industry of restaurants and hotels that has grown up around them. It’s a big job covering a big area. Home to over 150 wineries, the Russian River Valley AVA stretches from northernmost edge of Petaluma to just north of Healdsburg. (AVA stands for American Viticultural Area, the American version of the French “appellation.”)

The city of Healdsburg is considering a dramatic change to an ordinance that would make it illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to purchase cigarettes in the city limits.
