Veterans Day Events, Nov. 11
All local posts and chapters of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) are scheduling traditional Veterans Day ceremonies for this Saturday, Nov. 11. Several local businesses also are offering discounts and special invitations to veterans and their families.
Recreational crab season opens
Proving that some parts of living in Sonoma County are still normal, the local Dungeness crab recreational season opened on time this past weekend with the usual hordes of boaters, trappers, campers and kayakers. With the aftermath of the wild fires still occupying thousands of local residents there was some cause for celebrations as the prized crustaceans were off-loaded to waiting boiling pots and side dishes of fresh sourdough, cocktail sauce and (usually) cold beer.
Public meeting on ADA compliance for Healdsburg parks and town, Nov. 8
On Wednesday, Nov. 8, the Healdsburg Parks and Recreation Commission and Senior Citizens Advisory Commission will meet jointly in a work session format to receive a presentation evaluating Healdsburg’s Community Services/Parks and Recreation Facilities for accessibility required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The primary work up to this point has been to evaluate physical barriers to participation in programs and services (e.g. handicapped parking, pathway and sidewalk construction, restrooms, etc.). Future work will review readiness to serve people with disabilities from a program and service perspective. The work session begins at 6 p.m. at Healdsburg City Hall, 401 Grove Street. The work session agenda, staff report and draft accessibility evaluation report is available on the city’s web site at www.cityofhealdsburg.org.
Geyserville Fall Colors and Vintage Car Festival
Rick Tang, a local photographer, spent Sunday morning in Geyserville, checking out the Geyserville Fire Protection District pancake breakfast and the annual Fall Colors festival. Hungry people came from all over to attend the breakfast and show support for first responders. The festival included crafts, games, scarecrows, a pumpkin pie contest and the always-popular display of vintage cars in downtown Geyserville.
