Animal Shelter Answers
                    The Healdsburg Animal Shelter is in the business of saving lives, and we do it well. National averages show approximately 50% of dogs and 70% of cats entering shelters are euthanized. The Healdsburg Animal Shelter’s rate is 7%. Additionally, in 2011, our dog adoptions tripled; cat adoptions increased by 29%; medical expenses decreased by 75%; professional fees decreased by 53%; income from fundraising events increased by 358%; charitable giving doubled and volunteers contributed 1,500 more volunteer hours. These are amazing accomplishments. Operationally our shelter ranks among the top in the nation.                
                
            COVID-19 survivor shares experience with Food For Thought’s nutrition program
                    Edwin Ruano, of Petaluma, doesn’t know how he and his family contracted COVID-19 in late March. “But as soon as we knew that we got it, we called everyone that was close to us the week before, he said. “And then everybody got scared and they all went to (get) tested and they all got positive.”                
                
            Rotary hosts candidate forum — The town council candidates
                    The Rotary Club of Windsor hosted its candidate forum for town council and mayoral candidates on Sept. 17, but this time instead of the normal in-person format, it took place over Zoom. The host, as in year’s past, was Maureen Merrill and a timekeeper was present on the Zoom to keep people’s answers time appropriate.                
                
            One Cold Night looking for sleepers to help raise funds, awareness
                    Social Advocates for Youth (SAY) is once again hosting its one-of-a-kind awareness and fundraising event One Cold Night, and is looking for participants. The event will take place on Friday, Nov. 8.
